Ukraine’s President Exposes Russia’s Shadow Fleet of 500+ Tankers Evading Sanctions

On October 8, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky revealed that Russia’s shadow fleet consists of more than 500 tankers delivering oil while circumventing international sanctions. This assessment was based on intelligence data provided to him.

Zelensky emphasized the importance of stopping these tankers outright, as it would have a significant impact on energy-resource trade and security in Europe. He also highlighted that some of these platforms are used by Russia to launch drones.

The Boracay, one of the tankers detained in France on September 30, was found to be carrying Russian security service officers. According to Zelensky, Ukraine’s Foreign Intelligence Service provided French law enforcement with information about the origin of the crude oil cargo from Russia’s Primorsk.
