Ukraine Strikes at Russian Naval Supremacy in Azov Sea
The Ukrainian military has launched a major operation against Russia‘s naval supply chain, striking 21 tankers and other vessels in the Azov Sea. The attack, carried out using drones, is part of Ukraine‘s strategy to weaken Russia’s military and economic capabilities.
Targeting Russian Shipping
According to the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the operation aims to disrupt Russia‘s ability to transport oil and petroleum products, circumventing international sanctions and funding its war efforts. Russia has announced that Ukrainian drones attacked four vessels in the Taganrog Bay, Azov Sea. The governor of Rostov region, Yuri Slutsky, reported one sailor killed and no other injuries. One of the targeted ships was a tanker carrying methanol, but according to Russian authorities, there is no risk of chemical leakage.
Impact on Global Trade
The attack has led Russia to halt shipping through the Don Azov channel and Kerch Strait, a critical route for 25% of its wheat exports. This could result in an increase of up to 2% in global wheat prices.

This latest strike is part of Ukraine‘s ongoing campaign against Russian naval vessels in the Azov Sea. In recent weeks, Ukraine has struck 13 Russian ships, disrupting Russia‘s ability to project power in the region.
