ORLEN Delivers First LNG Cargo to Stade Terminal
On 2 November, the Lech Kaczyński berthed alongside the Energos Force floating storage and regasification unit at the industrial port of Bützfleth, Deutsche Energy Terminal (DET) announced. The tanker delivered approximately 160,000 cubic metres of LNG, equivalent to 96 million cubic meters of natural gas.
The ship-to-ship transfer proceeded without complications, according to the operator. ORLEN confirmed to Polish publication Fakt that the carrier from its fleet had delivered US LNG to Germany, linking the shipment to preparations for the terminal’s start-up. The cargo’s arrival marks the next stage in preparing to commission the terminal.
Preparations Underway for Terminal Commissioning
Preparations for commissioning the terminal, which will involve the first gas send-out from the unit into the transmission network in the coming days, are in full swing, DET said. The operator plans to provide an update on the next steps towards start-up shortly.
The Stade terminal is based on the Energos Force, which DET has chartered from Energos Infrastructure. The unit will receive LNG from carriers, regasify it, and send it into the gas transmission network. The Energos Force arrived in Stade on 15 September. In October, the vessel temporarily sailed to Rotterdam to cool down its tanks before receiving its first full LNG cargo.
Terminal’s Potential Supply Capacity
According to DET’s estimate, the Stade terminal could supply up to 3.2 billion cubic meters of natural gas to the German network in 2027. The terminal’s capacity will play a crucial role in meeting Germany’s growing energy demands and reducing reliance on other fuel sources.
