GEKUL
Terminal Overview
Description
The Kulevi Terminal is strategically located on the eastern coast of the Black Sea in Georgia, providing a vital link between the Caspian region’s oil and gas resources and international markets. The terminal was developed to enhance the export capabilities of the region’s energy sector, with construction completed in 2008. It is situated near the town of Kulevi, in the Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti region, offering direct access to the Black Sea shipping routes. The terminal’s infrastructure includes a jetty capable of accommodating large tankers, extensive storage facilities, and advanced loading and unloading systems. It has a storage capacity of approximately 320,000 cubic meters, distributed across multiple tanks, allowing for the handling of various types of crude oil and refined products. The terminal’s operations are designed to ensure efficient throughput, with a capacity to handle significant volumes annually. Ownership and management of the Kulevi Terminal are under the control of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR), which plays a pivotal role in the terminal’s strategic operations. The terminal’s importance is underscored by its role in diversifying energy export routes from the Caspian region, reducing dependency on traditional pipelines. Recent developments have focused on enhancing the terminal’s capacity and operational efficiency, ensuring it remains a key asset in the regional energy infrastructure.
