Indian LPG Carriers Safely Transit Gulf Region
Two Indian LPG carriers, BW TYR and BW ELM, carrying a combined cargo of approximately 94,000 metric tonnes, have successfully navigated the Gulf region and are en route to their destinations in India.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways on Sunday, BW TYR is expected to arrive at Mumbai on March 31st, while BW ELM is scheduled to reach New Mangalore on April 1st. The ministry has assured that all necessary measures have been taken to ensure the safety and security of Indian vessels and seafarers operating in the region.
DG Shipping Coordinates Efforts
The Directorate General of Shipping (DG Shipping) has been actively monitoring the situation, working closely with ship owners, RPSL agencies, and Indian Missions. The DG Shipping Control Room remains operational 24×7, having handled 4,523 calls and 8,985 emails since its activation. In the past 24 hours alone, the control room received 92 calls and 120 emails.
Seafarer Welfare and Repatriation
DG Shipping has facilitated the safe repatriation of over 942 Indian seafarers so far, including four in the last 24 hours. The ministry continues to coordinate with the Ministry of External Affairs, Indian Missions, and maritime stakeholders to ensure the welfare and uninterrupted operations of Indian-flagged vessels.
Port Operations and State Maritime Boards
Port operations across India remain normal, with no congestion reported. State Maritime Boards from Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, and Puducherry have confirmed smooth functioning. The Ministry of Ports and Shipping continues to monitor the situation closely, working in tandem with the Ministry of External Affairs and maritime stakeholders.
Ongoing Support and Assistance
Indian Missions and Posts across the region are functioning round-the-clock, operating 24×7 helplines and maintaining regular contact with Indian community associations. Updated advisories are being issued regularly, and Missions remain engaged with local authorities to ensure the safety and well-being of the Indian community.
The Ministry has also established a dedicated special control room to assist Indian nationals and their families, providing regular coordination with States and Union Territories. Assistance continues to be extended to seafarers, students, stranded Indian nationals, and short-term visitors, including visa, consular, and logistical support.
