A Ukrainian drone dodged gunfire from a Russian helicopter and slammed into an oil tanker off the coast of Sochi, according to footage released by Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces. Ukrainian officials have indicated that Operation MoLoChKa has caused substantial interruptions to Russian oil logistics. The September 12 strike also underscores a broader trend in modern warfare that has developed since late 2025: the increasing use of low-cost unmanned systems against maritime targets. A helicopter scrambled to intercept the drone and failed, forcing the deployment of a crewed military aircraft that still could not prevent the strike from completing its mission.
