Ukraine Strikes Russian Oil Terminal and Shadow Fleet Tanker — General Staff

Ukraine‘s Defense Forces struck the Sheskharis oil terminal, the Grushovaya oil depot, and a tanker linked to Russia‘s shadow fleet overnight on May 23, Ukraine’s General Staff said.

The strike and subsequent fire were confirmed at the Sheskharis terminal in Novorossiysk in Russia‘s Krasnodar Krai. The facility has a throughput capacity of up to 75 million tons of oil per year, with storage capacity of around 1.28 million cubic meters. It is used for exporting oil and petroleum products and supports the logistical needs of the Russian military.

Grushovaya Oil Transshipment Base Hit

The General Staff also said the Grushovaya oil transshipment base near Novorossiysk had been hit, with a fire recorded at the site. The facility is a key component of the Sheskharis complex and one of the largest storage facilities in southern Russia.

Damage Confirmed to Russian Shadow Fleet Tanker

The General Staff added that Ukrainian forces also struck an area in the Black Sea used by Russia‘s so-called shadow fleet, confirming damage to the tanker CHRYSALIS. The CHRYSALIS is a key component of the Russian shadow fleet, which has been involved in circumventing international sanctions against Russia.

Additional Strikes Confirmed

In addition to the strikes on the Sheskharis oil terminal and the Grushovaya oil transshipment base, Ukrainian forces also struck Russian communications hubs in Krasnorichenske in Luhansk Oblast and Smilyve in Zaporizhzhia Oblast, as well as a logistics warehouse in Frolivske in Zaporizhzhia Oblast and an ammunition depot in Prechystivka in Donetsk Oblast.
