Ukrainian President Zelensky Discusses Countering Russia’s “Shadow Fleet” with FIS Head

President Volodymyr Zelensky listened to a report by Oleh Ivashchenko, head of Ukraine‘s Foreign Intelligence Service (FIS), on countering Russia‘s “shadow fleet.” According to Ukrinform, Zelensky wrote about this on Facebook.

The Ukrainian leader emphasized the importance of preventing Russia from using ships of the so-called ‘shadow fleet’ to carry out sabotage and other attempts to destabilize Europe. He stated that Ukraine is actively working with partners to provide all necessary information and expects countering Russian interference to be much stronger. Currently, the Russians are using tankers not only to earn money for the war but also for reconnaissance and even sabotage activities.

Sanctions Against Russia Discussed

The interlocutors discussed specific tasks regarding sanctions against Russia, in particular, which schemes for circumventing sanctions need to be blocked first. Ivashchenko also reported on changes in Russia’s disinformation tactics in the near future.

Zelensky emphasized that he has instructed the head of foreign intelligence to work with partners who can provide Ukraine with more real supplies of the necessary weapons and equipment.

Environmental Concerns Raised

As reported by Ukrinform, Russia‘s “shadow fleet” is polluting European seas with oil. The environmental impact of these activities is a significant concern for Ukraine and its international partners.

In his Facebook post, Zelensky emphasized that it is entirely possible to stop this pollution and sabotage. He reiterated the importance of countering Russian interference and working together with partners to prevent further destabilization of Europe.
